Halloween in Kent
It's Halloween now in the US. It's usually celebrated every year on the 31st. For more info, go here. You know it's also Halloween when there's pumpkins everywhere, TV shows on all stuff creepy and candy and chocolate on sale!
Alas, we didn't go to downtown to check out the celebration (apparently last year somebody set a fire and people got drunk!) but we managed to drop by our friend's house for a visit during the trick or treating time and she had decorated her house very creatively! Even the front door had a large funky Halloween cover (sorry, no picture) and a small black kitty greeting you as you knock the door.

Of course, like most celebrations, it's only ever exciting for kids. They go trick or treating around the neighborhood for about a couple of hours. It also depends on your community, some do it only in the evenings (especially scary neighborhoods). And even then, not all houses entertain children. My friend said that if you see the lights out, there is no point in knocking; the owner has apparently decided that they won't be giving out candy! I found it amusing that the parents were willing to walk their child (or children) from house to house in the cold. Even babies were not exempt; although they were tightly bundled up in their coats or in the strollers. We managed to capture some photos of kids who appeared at my friend's house in full costume. Comel kan?
Most Malaysians here also celebrate Halloween with their friends and neighbors, nothing wrong with that in my opinion. It's good to immerse yourself in these activities, as you get to spend time with other people, and in exchange you get a little piece of what 'home' feels like...

Of course not everyone gives out candy; some people hand out pretzal, cookies or even tooth brushes. But I bet kids are no so thrilled with that!

just have a good laugh! ;)
Salam Syigim... tulah cepat kan masa berlalu! Now that you have mentioned that, yeah I am aware of Halloween's origins. I am with you on this, it's OK just to have fun and most people do it here because they want to interact with their neighbors. Kalau macam tu for me OK. Lain lah kalu mabok2 sekali, tu lain cite lah. He he he he.
